200 kN Lightweight CPT Penetrometer Set

The 200 kN lightweight CPT penetrometer set is an economical rig with full Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) capabilities. It is suitable for both electrical and mechanical CPT testing.

The stand-alone CPT penetrometer pusher set composes of a 200 kN penetrometer pusher featuring 2 hydraulic cylinders with manually operated valves, a diesel-hydraulic power-pack with a Hatz diesel engine and hydraulic pump, trolley for the transport of tubes and anchors, an hydraulic wrench and a set ground anchors.

The 200 kN stand-alone CPT penetrometer set is made of the highest quality components available and built to last. The choice for high quality components of well-known manufacturers having local service centres worldwide reduces machine downtime to a minimum.

CPT Penetrometer Pusher

A hydraulic penetrometer pusher of 2 vertical hydraulic cylinders, simultaneously operated, with a stroke of 650 mm. A thrust block connects the two cylinders. It is capable of driving and pulling the CPT sounding tubes into and out of the ground.

A hydraulic control unit, mounted on a console near the penetrometer pusher, allows the operator to control all functions. This console can be taken of the pusher frame for easy transport and handling. The unit comes complete with a guiding tubes, to be applied between the penetrometer and ground level.

The CPT penetrometer pusher is designed for both electrical and mechanical CPT testing.

NOTE: The maximum effective pushing capacity of the stand-alone CPT penetrometer pusher depends on the effectiveness of the anchoring.

The penetrometer pusher is powered by a diesel-hydraulic power-pack. The power-pack comprises an electrically started Hatz 1-cylinder direct-injected diesel engine (7.5 kW @ 3600 RPM).

The engine, installed on 4 shock-absorbing engine supports, drives a load-sensing hydraulic pump. Large hydraulic oil reservoir with effective 2-stage filtering system.

  • Hydraulic pump: Axial piston pump with power regulator
  • Hydraulic tank: Capacity approx. 50 l with built-on hydraulic filter
  • Hydraulic oil: Unil Hydro HVD46

4 ground anchors, which are screwed into the ground before testing and screwed out after testing, provide in general sufficient reaction force for the 200 kN pushing force of the penetrometer pusher when anchored in suitable grounds. Extra reaction force is obtained by using extension rods, anchors with larger blade diameter or by placing more anchors.

Anchor extension rods are used to increase the length of the ground anchor. They are most useful at sites where the soil at the surface is very weak, but the strength of the soil increases with a little depth. The extension rods can be invaluable at a site where there is a layer of fill covering stronger native soil. The extension rods have a female hexagonal drive on the bottom that pins to a ground anchor. On top it has a male hexagonal drive. The anchor extension rod is connected to the ground anchor using a high-strength bolt and nut (both included).

The CPT penetrometer set comes with a specially designed, two men operated hydraulic wrench for quick and effective placing of the ground anchors. The rotary drive (torque 2000 Nm) is mounted in the centre of the reaction arm of this hydraulic wrench. The wrench can be manoeuvred freely around the pusher and the ground anchors can be placed at that spot that suits the operator best.

The ground anchors are available with 3 different blade diameters, i.e. 220, 300 and 400 mm.

Purpose designed hydraulic wrench for driving ground anchors into and out of the ground. To be operated by 2 persons. The hydraulic power for the wrench is supplied by the diesel-hydraulic power-pack.

The wrench comes complete with 2 high-pressure hydraulic hoses of 6 meters length and is fitted with easy-to-use push/pull couplings for connection to the power-pack. The wrench is operated by one of the 2 operators by means of a lever that controls proportionally the hydraulic valve. Provided with a hexagonal socket for gripping the anchors. The wrench is also suitable to make a pre-drill hole of 120 mm using the pre-drill auger and the anchor extension rods.

The hydraulic wrench is dividable in 2 parts and comes with its own set of wheels for easy transport and handling.

Technical Specifications

When you take the CPT penetrometer set into the field, a load of sounding tubes, tools, instruments and accessories is needed as well. For this reason a handy trolley for the transport of all these materials in the field was developed.

The transport trolley is made of steel. Features a sturdy base-frame provided with 2 large balloon tires for optimum stability on uneven terrain. The weight distribution is carefully balanced.

The trolley features a tube rack composing of 1 fixed tube-tray and 3 detachable trays. Another detachable holder for the storing of 4 ground anchors, 4 extension rods and 4 tensioners. Also the 3 anchoring beams find a place on this trolley.

  • Storage capacity: Max. 80 tubes of 50 cm length with a diameter of 36 mm
  • Weight: 70 kg
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 234 x 85 x 88 mm
  • Total capacity: 450 kg

The 200 kN stand-alone CPT penetrometer set can be supplied with the following accessories and CPT equipment:

  • Pre-drill auger (D = 220 mm) to be used in combination with the hydraulic wrench and the extension rods in order to make a pre-drill hole, if required, prior to CPT testing
  • Toolbox with toolset for maintenance and repair

The CPT penetrometer set is designed and built in accordance with national and international standards and regulations. It complies with the provisions of the EC Directive 2006/42/EG and is provided with CE marking certifying that it meets EU consumer safety, health and environmental requirements.

The set comes with a 200 kN CPT penetrometer pusher suitable to accommodate the measuring equipment for all kinds of Cone Penetration Tests with a maximum pushing force of 200 kN, such as:
